With decades of experience in laboratory processing and distribution of donated human blood, Florida's Blood Centers (established in 1942) entered into Tissue Banking as a natural extension of its traditional services to hospitals and physicians.

Central Florida Tissue Bank (CFTB) was established in the early 80's as a not for profit organization. CFTB began providing area surgeons services in procurements, processing and distribution of donated tissues.

Some of the patients who receive tissue transplants include children with spinal disorders, patients with cancerous bone tumors and accident victims needing bone reconstruction. The donation of this precious gift can possibly save some patients from amputation as well as enhance the quality of life for up to 100 different patients.

Because of the specialized nature of tissue banking, a Medical Advisory Committee has been formed to provide CFTB with technical expertise from various aspects of the local medical community.

CFTB was the first tissue bank in Central Florida to be fully accredited and inspected by the American Association of Tissue Banks. We are also licensed and inspected by Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration and by the states of New York and California. Strict adherence is maintained to the Guidelines established by the FDA.

Central Florida Tissue Bank's ultimate goal is to continue to provide the community with the highest quality grafts and continue to adhere to the altruistic value of donation.
